Evening at Mandara Hut

Once you reach Mandara Hut, you’ll have some time to rest, enjoy a warm meal prepared by our skilled cooks, and soak in the serene surroundings. After dinner, gather around with your fellow climbers, share stories, and prepare for the adventure that lies ahead.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Trek to Horombo Hut

  • Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)
  • Duration: 5-7 hours
  • Altitude: 2,700m to 3,720m (8,858ft to 12,200ft)

As you walk, marvel at the breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak and the diverse flora. The trek becomes more challenging as you gain altitude, but the stunning vistas will keep your spirits high. Upon reaching Horombo Hut, take time to relax and acclimatize further.

Evening at Horombo Hut

Enjoy a hearty dinner and take in the gorgeous sunset views over the surrounding valleys. This night, you’ll be sleeping at a higher altitude, so ensure you stay hydrated and well-rested.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

A vital part of your Kilimanjaro experience is acclimatization. Today, you’ll have the opportunity to adjust to the altitude while taking a scenic day hike to Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Ridge.

Optional Hike

  • Distance: 10 km (6 miles)
  • Duration: 4-5 hours
  • Altitude Gain: 3,720m to 4,600m (12,200ft to 15,091ft)

The views from the ridge are absolutely stunning, offering a panoramic perspective of the mountain. This day is crucial for your body to adapt to the altitude before you push onward to the summit.

Evening at Horombo Hut

Return to Horombo Hut for another cozy night. Reflect on your journey so far and share your thoughts with fellow climbers.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Today marks an important leg of your journey as you ascend to Kibo Hut, the last stop before the summit.

  • Duration: 6-8 hours
  • Altitude: 3,720m to 4,700m (12,200ft to 15,420ft)

The landscape changes dramatically as you leave the moorland behind, entering the alpine desert zone. The atmosphere becomes drier, and the terrain becomes rugged. However, the excitement of nearing the summit will keep you motivated.

Evening at Kibo Hut

Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, enjoy dinner early and prepare for a long night ahead. You will be waking up at midnight for your summit attempt! Take a moment to look up at the stars; the night sky over Kilimanjaro is truly mesmerizing.

The trek begins with a steep ascent through the darkness. You’ll be using headlamps to light your path, and as you climb, the air becomes thinner and colder. But don’t worry; our expert guides will be with you every step of the way, encouraging and supporting you through this challenge.

As you reach Stella Point at dawn, take a moment to catch your breath and soak in the breathtaking views of the horizon as the sun rises over Africa. This moment is one of the most magical experiences of the climb.

Finally, make your way to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa! Celebrate your achievement, take photos, and bask in the glory of your success.
